Cardiac Rehabilitation Center
of Marin
Cardiac Rehab Center of Marin The Cardiac Rehab Center of Marin has been
recommended by your doctor to help you recover from your recent bout with
heart disease.
Rehabilitation is
also beneficial for those at high risk for developing heart disease. The
exercise based program is designed to help you exercise within specific
guidelines, modify risk factors, increase strength and stamina, and increase
your awareness of aggressive lifestyle change.
Education
Aggressive lifestyle changes are a necessary adjunct to regular management
of cardiovascular disease. Weekly educational lectures are given to increase
patients awareness of risk factor modification. Several topics are discussed,
such as: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stress, and nutrition.
In addition to education and exercise, behavior modification will also
be addressed.
How Do I Get Started?
A referral by your physician is needed in order to participate in the
program. An initial evaluation with a staff member is needed in order
to develop a specific, individualized exercise program. This is based
on your medical and exercise history.
Phase II Classes
Phase II classes are designed for those who have been recently discharged
from the hospital following a cardiac event. The goal is to return the
client to his or her previous level of functioning. Phase II patients
are continuously monitored by EKG while they exercise. Heart rate, perceived
exertion, blood pressure and weight are checked at each session. Rehabilitation
staff keep the doctor informed of progress and any problems that arise
during the program.
Phase III
Phase III maintenance classes are for participants who have graduated
from Phase II but wish to continue their exercise program in a medical
setting. This program is also suitable for those at risk for a cardiac
event. It is also beneficial for those concerned about their long-term
health and want to maintain or increase their level of fitness under the
supervision and support of cardiac nurses and exercise physiologists on
staff.
