TAM Program
Overview
What is it?
The TAM Program is designed to reverse the process of heart disease and
prevent arterial blockage. It is a comprehensive, scientifically-based therapeutic
approach. Located in Marin County, in California, has been in existence
since 1993.
The TAM Program is a Lifestyle Management Program
that follows a comprehensive, integrated and holistic approach to reducing
risk factors contributing to coronary heart disease.
TAM (Total Atherosclerosis
Management) was developed in 1993 Recent scientific evidence suggests
that adopting new lifestyle skills and attitudes greatly reduces the risk
for future problems from cardiac disease. Learning new habits related
to exercise, nutrition, eating behaviors, emotional response, and stress
management in a supportive, professional environment enhances an individual's
chance of success in preventing or recovering from heart problems. The
TAM model is for those individuals with a strong interest in creating
healthy lifestyle habits that will last a lifetime.
As a participant in
TAM you will receive:
- Individualized
exercise and fitness plan
- Individual and
group instruction regarding a heart healthy eating plan
- Computer analysis
of your current nutritional status, and follow-up as you progress
- Guidance in shopping,
storing, cooking and preparing food for maximum nutritional value
- Stress Management
therapies and integrated mind/body techniques
- Group support and
enhanced communication skills
- Up to date scientific
information and education on emerging cardiovascular risk factors and
therapeutic procedures.
- Innovative heart-related
wellness practices
- And ... more!
Who
is it for?
The TAM Program is open to anyone with or at risk for cardiovascular disease.
Spouses or partners are also welcome.
People with Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)
TAM has helped over 450 people since 1993 to make lifestyle changes. The
5 year survival rate after TAM is over 96%, and a high percentage of participants
are event free in the same period.
People with Cardiac Risks Interested in Prevention
Some TAM participants are learning lifestyle changes before they have
a heart attack. Twenty percent of Americans have one or more type of CVD,
and about 1 million Americans will die of CVD this year. Up to 50% of
people who experience a heart attack will die from it and many heart attacks
occur without prior warning signs.
How much does it cost?
The TAM program is a self pay program. Contracts exist with 3 insurers
which offer partial reimbursement for those who qualify.
Current costs for the TAM Program are: $4200.00
Partial scholarships are available for a limited number of participants.
